One of the toughest parts of being a teenager is that you’re all figuring out who you are and what sort of person you want to be, all at the same time.

You’re all going through an intense period of change filled with new experiences.

So how can you know whether your friendship is a typical teenage friendship or a toxic one?

Here are the 5 Warning Signs of a Toxic Friendship All Teens Need to Know:

  1. You feel emotionally drained

These friendships tend to be one-sided. They are nowhere to be found when you need support.

2. You don’t want to share good news with them.

They resent you for doing well or achieving your goals.

3. You hear them talking badly about others, but see them being nice to their face.

If they gossip to you about others, you can be sure they gossip about you to others, too. When they get called out, they try to say “I’m just kidding”

4. You find yourself questioning yourself.

They may use a technique called gaslighting to make you question your reality and doubt your intuition.

5. You find yourself trying to be someone you’re not.

Maybe you do this to impress them. Or perhaps it’s because you don’t want to be alone. If you feel uncomfortable or find yourself in dangerous situations - this is a toxic friendship.
