WHAT ANXIETY DOES FOR YOU
Anxiety tells us to:
wake up
pay attention
stay alert
Something different going on here
Maybe it's a good difference? Maybe not.
You get to assess and apply meaning to that situation to help you get through that moment.
YOU MAY BE EXPERIENCING ANXIETY IF
Here are a few common body signals of anxiety:
Trouble concentrating: you just keep thinking about it, or the thing that is making you worried or anxious just keeps circling
Feeling restless
trouble sleeping
Rapid breathing, or shortness of breath
Talking really fast
Headaches
Stomachaches
Everybody experiences feelings of anxiety differently.
It's really important to hone into how your body experiences anxiety, to know when and what it's trying to tell you.
WANT TO REMEMBER THESE TIPS? DON’T FORGET TO PIN IT!
Here is how you can hone into how your body experiences anxiety:
Step 1: FIND A QUIET PLACE
Step 2: THINK ABOUT THE LAST TIME YOU FELT ANXIOUS
Step 3: WHERE IN YOUR BODY DO YOU FEEL MOST UNCOMFORTABLE
Notice where your body is speaking to you loudest at that moment, and remember what that’s like.
That's your body’s signals that you're feeling anxious.
WHEN ANXIETY BECOMES PROBLEMATIC
Even though anxiety is always trying to be helpful and useful it can sometimes be quite problematic.
Some areas to pay attention to how it’s impacting you are:
social relationships
academic or work performance
keeping you from doing things you once loved and enjoyed
worse anxiety states, like panic attacks
thoughts or urges to harm yourself
even potentially make you consider dying by suicide
